Nature-based mentoring, coaching and immersive outdoor experiences

Return to the land, return to yourself. Unhurried time outdoors with Sam, using nature and traditional skills to build steadiness, resilience and the ability to meet life when it feels like too much. Based in Bedfordshire and mobile across Sussex and the South of England.

Who this is for

This is for people who feel a quiet pull back towards nature. Through hands-on, land-based experiences, like hide tanning, firecraft and simply spending time living outdoors, you find practical ways to steady yourself, reconnect, and regain your footing. There is no performance and nothing to prove. Everyone is an individual, and the work is shaped around you.

  • Tired and disconnected

People feeling burnt out, stretched thin, or a little out of step with themselves.

  • In a season of change

Women and men in transition, finding their footing, their direction and a steadier sense of self.

  • Neurodivergent minds

People who think differently and do better with a different pace and less noise.

  • Questioning your direction

Anyone unsure of their path, purpose or sense of self, wanting honest space to think it through.

  • Drawn to old skills

Anyone curious about traditional woodcraft, firecraft, hide tanning and a more rewilded way of living.

  • Families and young people

Parents and children sharing time outdoors, and families or schools seeking grounded mentoring for a young person.

A little about Sam

A husband, father and woodsman. After two decades in health and social care, and the burnout that followed, returning to the woods brought me back to myself. This work grew out of that. The fuller story is on the About page.

A few honest voices

Sam's work helps us move beyond seeing the land as something to visit and into experiencing it as something to be in relationship with. There is a rare alchemy in what he offers: solid bushcraft knowledge, ancestral skills and practical competence woven together with a profound understanding of the unseen dimensions of relationship, place and belonging. What I value most is how grounded it all is. Sam has a way of legitimising experiences that many people might dismiss as imagination, not through grand claims, but through lived practice, attentiveness and genuine skill. There is no pretence in his teaching. Just honesty, humour, wisdom and the invitation to pay attention. I have left with practical skills, a deeper trust in my own experience, and a renewed sense that the world is far more alive than we are often taught to believe.
Workshop participant
I've attended a few sessions with Sam. He is patient and has helped me develop new skills and understanding of not only bushcraft but woodland too. An education under Sam is a great learning experience on many levels; he even helped with my anxiety. I also brushed up on skills I had already learned, picking up new methods along the way. Thanks again, Sam, for your guidance.

Common questions

Where do sessions take place?
In-person work happens outdoors. Sam is based in Bedfordshire and mobile across Sussex and the wider South of England, and mentoring can also include online or telephone check-ins, so you do not need to be on the doorstep. Get in touch and we will find what works for you.
Can the work be done remotely?
Mentoring and coaching can be hybrid: one-to-one time outdoors, with online or telephone sessions where they help. The hands-on immersives, such as the hide tanning camp and parent and child days, are always in person.
Do I need any experience?
None at all. Whether it is mentoring, coaching, a parent and child day or an immersive camp, complete beginners are welcome. Everything is shaped around where you are and what you need.
Who is this for?
Tired or disconnected people, anyone navigating change or transition, young people finding their direction, neurodivergent people, those drawn to traditional outdoor skills, and families or schools seeking grounded mentoring for a young person. Sam works with women and men alike.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the offering and is shaped to the individual. The hide tanning camp is £300 for three days, including on-site camping. For mentoring, coaching, parent and child days and other immersives, get in touch for a conversation and a tailored quote.
Is Sam experienced, checked and insured?
Yes. Sam brings over twenty years in health and social care, and the work is safeguarding-led and person-centred. Details of DBS, insurance and first aid can be shared on request. There is more on the credentials and trust page.
